“Tonight, the double G stands for Gucci and Goop!” Gwyneth Paltrow, announced, presided over a long table beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and loads of seasonal fruits and vegetables, all naturally sourced from the local Amber Waves farm in Amagansett. The event—a dinner celebrating Gucci’s summer collection and the launch of a new Goop beauty product, took place this past weekend at the actor and wellness specialist’s home in the Hamptons—marked the two brands’ first collaboration. However, Paltrow’s history with the Italian home dates back even further with the raspberry-red tuxedo she famously wore at the 1996 VMAs. (Fashioners will recall that she wore the same outfit again 25 years later in the spectacular 100th anniversary Gucci show on Hollywood Boulevard in 2021.)
Dressed in a Gucci floral print maxi dress, Paltrow shared the task of hosting the evening in the garden with her friend and longtime stylist Elizabeth Salzman, who sported her signature waist-length brown hair over a chic knitted Gucci suit and pants. The pair put together a list of intriguing ice-breaking questions for their guests, the likes of Jodie Comer, Aerin Lauder and Gucci Westman. Her daughter Apple also attended and she looked ready for the summer party in a black mini dress and a hot pink Gucci bag slung over her shoulder. “First (or favorite) summer job?” Photographer Cass Bird said reading aloud the first reminder to her seatmate Jimmy Fallon. As it happens, the comedian scored his first gig at age 13 packing groceries. Though he didn’t last long. “I got fired for doing tricks,” he said annoyed.
To arrange the menu, Paltrow and Salzman enlisted the help of Mattia Agazzi, the chef responsible for Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura, the Michelin-starred eatery in Beverly Hills. “Italy in Amagansett” is how he describes the fare, which includes a delicious artichoke salad, grilled cod, and an Italian iced dessert flavored with delicious strawberries and lemon. Before the evening was over, Paltrow made a special mention of her mother Blythe Danner, perhaps the unofficial guest of honor. “Thank you so much for letting us walk through your lawn!”
