Just as important as the movie premieres at Cannes are the fabulous lunches, dinners, and parties that all of the A list stars get to attend. Yesterday, actor Sydney Sweeney hosted a lunch with Miu Miu at L’Écrin Plage, the iconic seaside restaurant located at the eastern end of La Croisette. The Euphoria star mingled with guests like Ashley Graham, Aja Naomi King, and Amina Muaddi—and she, of course, brought a fashionable look for the affair. Considering this year wasn’t Sweeney’s first time in Cannes—she attended the Canneseries festival last year—the star knew how to dress for the occasion. “I love the energy that comes to life in Cannes,” says Sweeney. “And, there’s so many tucked away, amazing spots to eat.” For the Miu Miu lunch, she opted for the label’s powder blue dress, embroidered with white flowers. “I love the flower details, and the light blue material of the dress,” says Sweeney. “I’ve been wanting to wear blue since it’s my favorite color, and I felt like this silhouette was perfect for a lunch in Cannes.” Her beauty look, meanwhile—including a perfectly tousled bouffant—was inspired by a certain iconic French star. “It felt very Brigitte Bardot, my forever beauty icon,” she says.
Of course, it’s not the first time Sweeney has worn Miu Miu for such a high profile event. The star is a face for the brand, and has often worn its sweet, feminine designs on the red carpet. “Miu Miu has become my family,” says Sweeney. “I love the team of women who I’ve gotten close with, and I love how collaborative they are with me for my looks. I love their clothes, bags, and accessories—they’re effortlessly cool.” What’s Sweeney up to post festival, meanwhile? She’s heading right back to set. “I head back to Pennsylvania to finish up shooting my new movie Echo Valley with Julianne Moore,” she teases. We can’t wait to see which ensemble she busts out for the premiere. The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is a hub for all things chic and glamorous. That said, there’s a conventional style at the event You’ll often find A list actors or models wearing traditional, Old Hollywood style gowns on the Croisette. But for the third year in a row French singer Yseult has brought a dash of individuality and a risk taking sensibility to the affair. “The most important [thing] for me is to be and feel myself,” Yseult tells Vogue. “When thinking of my red carpet, my aim is to show my character, my personality, and make a statement.”
Of course, attending Cannes as a jury member has been about so much more than just dressing up for Larson. The actor sees the iconic film festival as a moment to celebrate the art of filmmaking. “Cannes has always held the standard of what cinema can be, how it can change our minds, how it can push things forward, and how it can make us feel uncomfortable,” says Larson. “So to be a part of something like this is such an honor.” She describes being a part of the jury—which also includes actor Paul Dano and director Julia Ducournau—like being a part of “a beautiful extended family.” She adds, “we’re all from very different backgrounds, and have now come together to watch the same films and have deep conversations surrounding each of them. It is something so sacred and rewarding that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
