#TeechallaclothingLLC What’s on your summer wardrobe wishlist? Maybe a Totême one piece? Or an easy Tove dress in a mood lifting shade of lilac? Victoria Beckham is taking a rather more unexpected approach to her holiday packing this year—at least if her most recent tongue in cheek Instagram post is anything to go by. The Spice Girl turned designer’s latest snaps—which find her hanging out by an otherwise deserted swimming pool in a full runway look from her spring 2023 collection—suggest she’s advocating for sky high stiletto boots over sandals, and sweeping trains over short hemlines this summer. For a long time, I’ve avoided suits. In part because my past jobs did not seem to call for one on a regular basis. Wearing a two piece to a crowded WeWork office—where I worked for an economical minded publication—carried the potential of coming off as overdressed or, even more fatal, self important. But if I’m being honest, my circumvention of menswear’s most time honored garment was a bit more deliberate and layered than my immediate circumstances. In my mind, white, heterosexual businessmen who shouted stock prices into their phones wore suits. Not a queer, Black culture writer who smiled each month he made rent. A suit suggested a brand of stiff, old school masculinity that I was uninterested in. Instead, I’ve always been drawn to communicating something fresher, younger, and more elastic around masculinity when it comes to how I dress. So I found creative ways to side step blazers and slacks. First day at work outfit? Cigarette pipe Daniel Fletcher sweatpants with an oversized button down. College graduation ceremony? A white boiler suit by Supreme. Hey, the outfit had the word suit in it. (It also helped that this was all during the heyday of high end streetwear fits.)

#TeechallaclothingLLC Dakota and Elle Fanning might have very different personal styles, but they share the same stylist, Samantha McMillen. Last night they celebrated her at the The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo Power Stylists Dinner, as McMillen was named one of the 25 most powerful stylists of the year, for her work with Ana de Armas and others. Given the whole focus of the event was styling, it’s not surprising that the sisters used it as an opportunity to push a more directional aesthetic in contrasting—but equally fashion forward—looks. Dakota wore a red minidress from Loewe’s spring 2023 collection, which had the emblem of the collection, an obviously fake anthurium, contorted around the body—with the stem of the flower draped over the shoulder and the head acting as a bra. Jonathan Anderson’s unique floral detail has been seen on countless cool girls in recent months, from Zendaya to EmRata and Adwoa Aboah.

At the premiere of Amazon’s The Power in New York City earlier this week, series star Auli’i Cravalho did both The actor used her red carpet look to spotlight the growing epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW). Cravalho—who is a Hawaiian native, and also voiced Moana in the 2016 Disney film—punctuated her floral print Naeem Khan dress with a red handprint painted across her face. The color red—and specifically, red handprints—has become a symbol within the Indigenous community to represent the MMIW movement, which aims to spotlight how Indigenous women are disproportionally affected by violence.
